Dr. Kasten is a highly respected professional who has been active in
Republican politics. An accomplished
academician, she is renowned for her expertise in Latin American studies, linguistics and global health issues.
As a prominent Republican, Aleyda
is a member of the Senatorial Inner Circle and was honored as one of 100 Republican Virginians Outstanding
Achievement for 2005 and was one of the only two Virginian Hispanic Members of the Florida Recount Team during the 2000 Presidential
Election. She represented Virginia as an Alternate Delegate at the Republican Convention
in New York City in 2004. She has supported numerous high profile campaigns including presidential, senate and congressional
races. She served as co-chair of Latinas for Bush and Colombians for Bush and
was the coordinator for the Bush/Cheney Coalition in Virginia. Dr. Kasten has also appeared as a spokesperson for the Party on Univision and Telemundo.
Her professional career has
taken her from executive positions at prestigious Georgetown
University to critical roles at the U.S. Agency for International Development’s
Global Health Bureau. At USAID, she has had to travel to remote parts of the
world in support of the agency’s mission. As a concerned citizen, she has
served on the Global AIDS and Cancer Foundation and has been a volunteer teacher at Hogar Hispano for the last 15 years. She is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian.
